NYC Public Health Laboratory: design by SOM

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) unveiled its design for the NYC Public Health Laboratory, a 10-story building with 21,500 square meters meant to strengthen the metropolis's capability to respond to a variety of public health issues and future challenges. The laboratory is organized within a cubic glass volume stepping outward. To give the new facility an active role within the Harlem neighborhood, the design incorporates a training lab and an auditorium. (Status: Under Construction - Completion Year: 2026)

BioLabs NC: A unique life science co-working facility in Chapel Hill

BioLabs is the first life science tenant in the new E. Rosemary Street Innovation Hub, where Perkins Eastman is designing and renovating spacious, flexible, and light-filled co-working wet-lab spaces for life-science startup companies and researchers. The project provides research and innovation spaces for businesses emerging from research initiatives at the University of North Carolina at downtown Chapel Hill.

850 Phoenix: Biomedical Laboratory Inspired by Desert Landscape

Real estate development company, Wexford Science & Technology, enlisted HKS to design their first lab building to serve as a gateway for the northern edge of the PBC and the largest multi-tenant, commercial lab building in Phoenix. 850 PBC with a 22,000 square meters building, integrates public art for both permanent and rotating exhibitions, boosting the local government’s downtown revitalization efforts (Status: Under Operation - LEED Golden Certification).

Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Engineering

A Center designed by HDR on the campus of the University of Maryland is a hub for technology. Bringing together the university's top-ranked Department of Computer Science and its renowned Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, the building’s six floors of specialized laboratories with a 20,000 square meter building (Status: Under Operation - Completion Year: 2019 - LEED Platinum Certification).

Vagelos Laboratory for Energy Science and Technology (VLEST)

Ensuring Behnisch Architekten completed the Vagelos Laboratory for Energy Science and Technology (VLEST) — a seven-story (10,450 m²) research facility at the University of Pennsylvania, officially inaugurated in December 2024. The building serves as a hub for sustainable energy research, bringing together scientists, engineers, and policymakers to collaborate on innovative solutions. Designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
